It’s been a great day, this afternoon I managed to get an interview with American jazz pianist Robert Glasper who is visiting the UK as part of the London Jazz Festival. I am delighted to have had a chat with Robert as he’s not only a fantastic, distinctive and innovative pianist, mixing hip hop and funk influences, but is increasingly working as a producer and writer. He produced Gretchen Palato’s current album “The Lost and Found” and has worked with hip hop artists such as Q-Tip, The Roots and Kanye West through to jazz luminaries like Terence Blanchard. This diversity is one of the reasons I wanted to talk to Robert about the concept of a ‘brainstrument’.

You can see Robert tomorrow (Wednesday) at the XOYO where he’ll be playing with his funk outfit The Experiment and on Thursday his jazz trio will be appearing at Kings Place. Good luck for a last minute ticket though, I think both shows are sold out, but you might get lucky with a return. I managed to get a ticket for Thursday’s show so see you there.

If you can’t make the shows check out www.robertglasper.com or find him on Spotify.
